An afternoon of food and music is planned for Sunday, October 16 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Margaretville Village Park. Sponsored by the Village of Margaretville with support from Mang Insurance and the Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley, the gathering is a celebration of community spirit that has helped us weather the difficult weeks since Irene crashed through town.
The Methodist Church will offer Brooks barbecue chicken for purchase. Please bring a dish to pass and your own non-alcoholic beverage. The music starts at 1:15 when the Hobart Pipes and Drums will perform, followed at 2 p.m. by The Hellcats, an ensemble comprised of buglers and drummers from the West Point Military Academy Band.
With their precise marching, embellished by the twirls of silver bugles and intricate rudimental drumming, the group delights thousands of spectators each year. In addition to sounding Reveille and Retreat at the garrison flagpole at West Point, the Hellcats perform at ceremonial functions, military reviews and parades. Each weekday they provide music as the cadets march into the mess hall. Equipped with instruments designed and hand-made specifically for them, the Hellcats enable the West Point Band to maintain faithful renditions of traditional American military music while providing the Corps of Cadets with a piece of living history.
So join your neighbors for a day in the park, and while you’re there, visit Margaretville Hospital’s Mobile Van which will be there to do blood pressure screening and glucose testing.
In case of rain the event will take place at Margaretville Central School (rear entrance).
