The Margaretville Fire Department, with the assistance of the Halcottsville FD, pumped approximately 250,000 gallons of water out of the flooded area behind Swart Street on Saturday in an attempt to lessen basement flooding to the homes on Swart Street and Academy Street. They also pumped a number of basements in that area on Saturday, reports MFD Chief Gene Rosa. Some of the basements refilled with water as soon as we pulled the pumps. Only time and drier weather will allow those basements to dry out. The MFD has officially “stood down” from the emergency and is back to normal operations.
